EU Gives Time until Mid-April from the US

1 Mins Read

The European Union has postponed the measures planned in response to the US steel and aluminum tariffs until mid-April to allow time for negotiations. Maros Sefcovic, the EU Commissioner for Trade, spoke about the commercial issues between the EU and the US at the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament. Sefcovic mentioned that they would align the timing of the two sets of measures prepared by the EU against the US steel and aluminum tariffs, and that they would consult with member states during this process and also buy time for negotiations with the US side. If an agreement is not reached between the parties, Sefcovic stated that the EU would recalibrate its response taking into account the new reciprocal tariffs that the US administration would implement on April 2, indicating that this approach would allow for a firm, proportionate, robust, and well-adjusted response.
