In the third quarter of the year, the Euro area economy recorded a growth of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter. The European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, released the preliminary GDP data for the Euro area and the EU for the third quarter. According to the data, the seasonally adjusted GDP in the 20-member Euro area increased by 0.4% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter. GDP in the Euro area also rose by 0.9% in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period last year. Market expectations were for a quarterly GDP growth of 0.2% and an annual growth of 0.8% in the Euro area. The released data exceeding these market expectations drew attention. In the EU, the seasonally adjusted GDP saw a quarterly growth of 0.3% and an annual growth of 0.9% in the third quarter. GDP in the third quarter increased by 0.2% in Germany, 0.4% in France, and 0.8% in Spain compared to the previous quarter, remaining unchanged in Italy. Compared to the same period last year, GDP decreased by 0.2% in Germany but increased by 1.3% in France, 0.4% in Italy, and 3.4% in Spain.
