Confidence in the economy weakened in Europe in March. According to the report of the EU Commission, the economic confidence index decreased by 1.1 points on a monthly basis to 95.2. The EU Commission released the results of the March business and consumer surveys. Accordingly, the economic confidence index fell by 0.9 points to 96 in the EU on a monthly basis in March. In the Eurozone, the index also dropped by 1.1 points to 95.2 during the same period. Market expectations were for the index to be at 97 points in the Eurozone. The data announced fell below expectations. The Eurozone Consumer Confidence Index also decreased from -13.6 in March to -14.5. As a result, a weakening in consumers’ general economic expectations was observed in the Eurozone. In the EU, the index fell by 1 point in March to -13.9.
