The agricultural production has been adversely affected by the hot weather, impacting winter fruits as well. A fifty percent decrease in tangerine yield is expected. Prices are nearly triple when it goes from the garden to the market. Productivity in tangerines has decreased by half. The warm weather continues to affect agricultural products. The tangerine harvest in Adana, one of Turkey’s main production centers, has started disappointingly. Last year, one million tons of tangerines were harvested in the city. It is expected that this year’s figure will decrease to 500,000 tons. Tangerines are cultivated in an area of 379 thousand acres in Adana. Currently, early-harvest tangerines are being harvested. Mehmet Akın Doğan, President of the Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture, stated, “Prices are good at the moment, but farmers are not happy because they cannot get a good yield from citrus fruits. Farmers will once again not make a profit.” The price per kilogram of tangerines in gardens ranges from 15 to 18 Turkish Liras. It is expected that this price will exceed 20 liras in the coming days. Tangerines are being sold at 40 liras in markets and bazaars.
