Diplomatic Move After 13 Years from Germany: Reopening of Damascus Embassy

1 Mins Read

Germany has reopened its Embassy in Damascus, which was closed in 2012 due to the civil war, after a gap of 13 years.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made her second visit to the capital of Syria, Damascus, following the overthrow of the Assad regime.

Minister Baerbock reestablished Germany’s Embassy in Damascus, which was closed in 2012 after the start of the civil war in the country.

Germany’s Special Envoy to Syria, Stefan Schnecke, announced on his social media account that Baerbock officially reopened the embassy, stating, “We are pleased to work closely with all Syrians for a better Syria.”

Schnecke mentioned that there is a limited number of staff in the embassy team, so visa and consular procedures will continue to be carried out from Beirut.
