With the increasing use of digital communication tools worldwide, traditional methods of correspondence such as letters are beginning to phase out.
The state-operated postal service PostNord in Denmark revealed that due to a 90% decline, they will halt letter deliveries starting from January 1, 2026.
1,500 PEOPLE WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS
As a result of this decision, approximately 1,500 out of 4,600 employees are expected to lose their jobs.
Following the cessation of letter delivery, the removal of the 1,500 post boxes in the country is anticipated to commence in June, while a Danish private company stated that it could take over letter distribution.
DECLINE SINCE 2000
In Denmark, where there has been a decline in letter delivery since the year 2000, the decision is expected to impact the elderly population the most.
While 95% of Danes use digital postal services, it was reported that 271,000 individuals still send letters. PostNord also operates in Sweden.
