Demand for Limitation of E-commerce Commissions from Craftsmen

2 Mins Read

Craftsmen have requested a limitation on the high commission rates on some e-commerce platforms. TESK President Palandöken stated, “It is essential to implement regulations on this practice in order to reduce inflation and ease the burden on craftsmen and citizens.” Bendevi Palandöken, the President of the Confederation of Turkish Craftsmen and Artisans (TESK), highlighted the need for setting a minimum and maximum for the high commission rates on certain e-commerce platforms. In a written statement, Palandöken pointed out that high commission rates in e-commerce not only affect prices but also lead to citizens purchasing products at higher prices, which in turn fuels inflation. Palandöken mentioned that the commission rates, which are typically in the range of 16-18%, have been increased to 33-35%, exacerbating the price hikes on goods purchased by citizens and contributing to inflation. Stressing the importance of implementing a minimum and maximum range for e-commerce commission rates to reduce inflation, Palandöken stated, “Especially for craftsmen and artisans in the food and beverage sector, surviving without e-commerce in today’s conditions is very difficult. Craftsmen want to benefit from modernity because without this service, they cannot sell their products. Citizens are already integrated into this system, and taking advantage of this by increasing prices causes harm to both craftsmen and citizens. Establishing a minimum and maximum range for these commissions would lead to transparency in the system. It is crucial to implement regulations on this practice in order to reduce inflation and ease the burden on craftsmen and citizens.”
