Death toll in earthquakes in Myanmar rises to 2,056: National mourning declared in the country

The death toll from two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 6.4 in magnitude in Myanmar has risen to 2,056, with the number of injured reaching around 3,900. According to Xinhua, the military junta’s information team in Myanmar made a statement regarding the earthquakes that occurred on March 28 in the country. The statement indicated that so far, 2,056 people have died in the earthquakes, around 3,900 people have been injured, and approximately 270 people are still missing. Additionally, it was reported that in the Thai capital Bangkok, where the earthquake was strongly felt, the number of fatalities has risen to 17, with 32 injured and 83 people still missing. Two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 6.4 hit near the Sagaing region in central Myanmar, causing significant destruction in the country, raising concerns over further loss of life.

NATIONAL MOURNING FOR 1 WEEK
The Myanmar government announced a national mourning period from March 31 to April 6, during which flags will be flown at half-mast nationwide in memory of those who lost their lives in the earthquake.
