Cuba continues to face electricity shortages.
Following the collapse of the national electricity grid, a large part of the country was engulfed in darkness.
In a statement by the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines, it was mentioned that a malfunction occurred at the Diezmero substation in the capital, Havana, around 8:15 local time.
It was reported that there was a power outage in the western part of the Caribbean country, which has a population of 10 million, including the capital, and that the national electricity system collapsed. Efforts to address the malfunction are ongoing.
Cuba’s electricity grid is nearly completely collapsed due to fuel shortages, natural disasters, and economic crises.
With reduced oil imports from Venezuela, Russia, and Mexico at power plants, the country experienced a crisis this year, while widespread power outages also occurred in November and December of last year.
