At a critical economy summit, Turkey and the European Union came together, with the participation of Finance and Treasury Minister Şimşek and high-ranking EU officials after a six-year gap. The Turkey-European Union (EU) High-Level Economic Dialogue Meeting is being held in Brussels after a six-year hiatus. Kicking off in the morning at the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels, the meeting saw the attendance of numerous high-ranking officials such as Finance and Treasury Minister Mehmet Şimşek, EU Commission Vice-President for the Economy Valdis Dombrovskis, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. The first part of the meeting will focus on discussing the macroeconomic outlooks of Turkey and the EU, steps that can be taken in the field of competitiveness, and structural reforms. Minister Şimşek and Commissioner Dombrovskis will co-chair these sessions. In the second part, leading representatives from the Turkish and EU business world, ministers, and commissioners will meet to evaluate shared investment and trade opportunities. Senior executives from European-based financial institutions such as the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Council will also participate in the meetings. Minister Şimşek is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Dombrovskis and Kos during the summit. The meeting holds significance in strengthening economic relations between the parties and deepening strategic cooperation. The Turkey-EU High-Level Economic Dialogue Meeting had previously taken place in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Minister Şimşek had represented Turkey at the first meeting as well. It was decided to restart the high-level dialogue meeting after a six-year hiatus.
