Following the declaration of martial law in South Korea, President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from office, has been released. Yoon, who became the first president to be arrested in South Korean history, was arrested following the failed declaration of martial law.
According to Yonhap, the Seoul Central District Court accepted President Yoon Suk Yeol’s appeal against his detention. Following the court’s decision, Yoon was released. Yoon had objected to the arrest decision, claiming that the indictment related to the declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024, was illegal.
Yoon’s Arrest Process: The South Korean National Assembly had requested Yoon’s impeachment due to the unconstitutional declaration of martial law, leading to his removal from office and subsequent arrest on January 15 as part of the martial law investigation.
Refusal to Testify: It was reported that Yoon refused to testify after being interrogated for more than 10 hours on the first day. Yoon, who became the first president to be arrested in South Korean history, was transferred to a detention center after his interrogation. On January 19, Yoon was arrested on charges of “leading a rebellion” and “abuse of power” by the Seoul Western District Court.
