Customs Protection teams of the Ministry of Commerce seized over 4.5 tons of methamphetamine narcotics at the Gürbulak Border Crossing connecting Turkey to Iran. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce, as a result of anti-narcotics trafficking efforts conducted by the Customs Protection General Directorate units, three trucks entering Turkey from Iran were deemed high-risk and subjected to detailed inspection. Following x-ray scans which revealed suspicious densities in the vehicles, a search was conducted with the assistance of narcotic detector dogs, leading to the seizure of over 4.5 tons of methamphetamine narcotics, including 706 kilograms soaked in talcum powder and 3,797 kilograms hidden in plant roots. INVESTIGATION INITIATED Aided by the Ağrı Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams, the operation was expanded to detain the perpetrators identified during the operation, with an investigation into the incident initiated at the Doğubayazıt Republic Prosecutor’s Office. The statement mentioned that a significant blow was dealt to drug traffickers with a record drug seizure at the Gürbulak Border Crossing.
