Despite Russia’s resistance to accepting a ceasefire, U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy to Kiev suggested that Ukraine could be divided like post-World War II Berlin.
General Keith Kellogg proposed that the country could be divided into control zones, with British and French forces stationed in the west as part of a “security force” while Moscow forces could be in the east.
Kellogg mentioned that among these divisions, there would be Ukrainian forces and a demilitarized zone, but he claimed that the U.S. would not provide any ground forces.
The American envoy told The Times newspaper, “You can almost create a Russian zone, a French zone, and a British zone as in Berlin after World War II.”
Kellogg later stated that The Times had distorted his words.
Taking to his social media account, Kellogg wrote, “I was referring to forces that would ensure the sustainability of supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty after the ceasefire. When discussing the issue of division, I was thinking about the responsibilities or areas of allied forces.”
