The gap between the cost of living and the minimum wage in Istanbul has widened. The cost of living for a family of four was calculated as 73,739 liras. Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, revealed the cost of living in the city. Accordingly, the cost of living in Istanbul showed an increase of 3.23% monthly and 60.46% annually in October. The average cost of living for a family of four increased by 2,308 liras compared to the previous month, reaching 73,739 liras. The data showed the lowest monthly increase in the past six months. The minimum wage was set at 17,002 liras in January. In January 2023, the cost of living in Istanbul was estimated at 29,429 TL, and in 2024, it was projected to be 53,058 TL. The annual increase in baby food was 58.92%, while the annual increase in toilet paper was 112.70%.
