The European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom have concluded negotiations to facilitate cooperation between authorities in competition investigations. The EU Commission announced that technical negotiations for a cooperation agreement in the field of competition have been finalized between the EU and the UK. The statement indicated that the Competition Cooperation Agreement would complement the EU-UK Trade Agreement, enabling collaboration between the EU Commission, national competition authorities, and the UK competition authority in competition investigations. Highlighting that this marks the first competition cooperation agreement between the EU and a third country, the statement emphasized the coordination in significant antitrust and merger investigations. Following approval by the EU and the UK, the agreement will come into effect.
