Controversial Post from Germany! Apology Issued to Azerbaijan

2 Mins Read

Germany has apologized to Azerbaijan for President Walter Steinmeier’s use of the flag of the so-called Armenian administration that occupied Karabakh on social media. Dörte Dinger, Head of the German Presidential Office, sent a letter to Hikmet Hacıyev, Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan. Dinger stated in the letter that the mentioned post was published briefly on President Steinmeier’s social media account and was immediately deleted once the error was noticed. Dinger expressed in the letter, “This post was published due to a technical error and has no connection to Germany’s known stance on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. I am deeply sorry for this mistake and sincerely apologize for the wrong impressions it may have created among some people in Azerbaijan.” Dinger noted that Steinmeier’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan aims to strengthen the Azerbaijan-Germany partnership and support the ongoing peace process in the region. Prior to Steinmeier’s visit to Armenia, where he used the flag of the former occupying regime in Karabakh in a post on his Instagram account, the German Ambassador to Baku was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and asked to apologize on behalf of Germany. Steinmeier, who visited Armenia, will later engage in talks in Azerbaijan.
