Caught red-handed by police while sexually abusing his 17-year-old student, English teacher Eppie Sprung Dawson admitted on a radio program 12 years later that his life was ruined. In 2012, Dawson was caught by patrolling police officers while abusing his student in a car, but he did not receive a prison sentence, although a sexual assault offense was added to his record. Dismissed from teaching, Dawson was assigned to a public service job for 6 months.
Connecting to a radio program in Scotland 12 years after the incident, the 38-year-old woman revealed how her life was ruined due to the crime she committed at 26. Sprung Dawson said, “I was a teacher and had a sexual relationship with my 17-year-old student. I didn’t go to prison, but I received a stigma that made living in society very difficult. Especially individuals convicted of sexual offenses are further marginalized in society. I think the hardest thing I experienced was this alienation. After this incident, I lost both my career and my marriage,” she said. One year after the incident, the former teacher appeared in court in Dumfries, claiming that even the judge leading the case humiliated her.
Claiming to now work for an aid organization in Scotland, Eppie Sprung Dawson said that she works on reintegrating convicted criminals back into society.
