Reports indicate that a ship collided with an oil tanker off the northeast coast of England, causing the ship to sink and a fire to break out on the tanker. A total of 37 crew members from both vessels were rescued safely.
The UK Coastguard received a report of a collision between a tanker and a cargo ship.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency stated that a vessel had sunk off the northeast coast of England. The statement mentioned, “Rescue boats from Skegness, Bridlington, Maplethorpe, and Cleethorpes, an HM Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft, nearby ships with firefighting capabilities, as well as a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Humberside have been called to the scene. The incident is still ongoing.” The alert about the incident was raised at 09:48 in the morning. BBC reported that the oil tanker involved in the collision caught fire.
A total of 37 crew members from both vessels were rescued safely. Authorities mentioned that one crew member is currently under medical treatment.
The Coastguard stated that they are evaluating the potential pollution response needed after the collision.
