The serial killer known as the “Chessboard Killer” was sentenced to life in prison for killing 48 people in Russia. According to a statement from the country’s prison administration, the serial killer said he was ready to confess to 11 more murders.
Alexander Pichushkin, now 50 years old, targeted his victims near Bitsevsky Park in Moscow. It was noted that most of the victims were homeless, alcoholic, or elderly.
After a series of murders that lasted from 1992 to 2006, he was tried and imprisoned in 2007.
He was dubbed the “Chessboard Killer” by Russian media because he told detectives that he planned to place a metal coin on each of the 64 squares of a chessboard for each victim.
According to Skynews, the serial killer is currently held in the Polar Owl Prison, a remote prison in Russia’s Arctic region, after serving his sentence.
The Russian Prison System today stated in a Telegram messaging application that the suspect was ready to confess to investigators that he was responsible for the deaths of 11 more men and women.
He claimed to have killed 63 people in his previous trial, but he was only charged with 48 murders and three attempted murders.
If found guilty of the additional 11 murders, he will be the second most prolific serial killer in Russia’s recorded history, with former police officer Mikhail Popkov being convicted of 78 murders.
