Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz revealed that following customs duties, Turkey will engage in a negotiation process with the US. Yılmaz stated that the issue of Halkbank will also be addressed with the aim of finding a solution. During the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Yılmaz responded to questions from Bloomberg, highlighting the positive atmosphere in the new era of US-Turkey relations and how it would impact the Halkbank case. He expressed, “We have been expressing our righteousness on this matter for many years. Our President and Mr. Trump have discussed these issues multiple times in the past. I believe that in the upcoming periods, these issues will be discussed and debated at both the leadership level and various other levels. Finding resolutions to these problems will undoubtedly be beneficial for Turkey-US relations, economically, and in many other respects.” Yılmaz also recalled Trump’s positive personal views on this matter, stating, “In this new era, discussions on these topics will continue at all levels. Our hope and expectation are for these issues to be resolved, allowing the two strong allies in NATO, two countries with various economic, trade, and other agendas, to put these matters behind and focus on their main agendas, which we believe will be more beneficial for both countries.” Yılmaz mentioned that the impact analyses of customs tariffs will be discussed in the Economic Coordination Committee meeting and emphasized that the main goal with the US is a trade volume of 100 billion dollars.
