In a new study examining 50,000 participants, it was revealed that individuals with blood groups A, B, or AB have a 55% higher risk of developing stomach cancer compared to those with blood group O. An article in the Daily Mail reported that individuals with blood groups A, B, or AB are at a higher risk of developing certain deadly types of cancer.
Moreover, it was mentioned that having blood group O negative or O positive may provide some protection against pancreatic cancer. In the study of 50,000 Iranians, it was found that individuals with blood groups A, B, or AB have a 55% higher risk of developing stomach cancer compared to those with blood group O. Scientists emphasized that individuals with blood group A are also at a higher risk of developing colon cancer. Another study conducted in 2016 on approximately 18,000 adults revealed that individuals with blood group AB have a 45% higher risk of developing liver cancer.
In the United Kingdom, the most common blood groups are O positive, A positive, and A negative. AB negative is the rarest blood group, making up only 1% of the population. Experts are not certain why certain blood groups particularly increase the risk of digestive system cancers. Some scientists argue that the accuracy of the data is questionable, as many studies have a small number of participants and often overlook risk factors such as alcohol consumption or smoking.
