Ceasefire table in Doha: Hamas did not send representative

2 Mins Read

The deadlock in Gaza ceasefire negotiations restarted yesterday in Doha and continues today.

While representatives from Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and Israel are participating in the talks, Hamas did not send any representatives.

Israel’s delegation, led by the head of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, David Barnea, met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Egyptian General Intelligence Service Director Hasan Mahmoud Rashad, and CIA Director William Burns.

This marks the first high-level meeting among the relevant parties in Gaza to achieve a ceasefire following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by Israel.

The U.S. had previously indicated that it was seeking a “new framework” for a ceasefire agreement to facilitate progress in the talks among all the parties.

According to Israeli sources, a liaison connected to the Israeli delegation noted that the final agreement would depend on Tel Aviv’s desire to halt the conflicts, and results can only be achieved once the Israeli delegation is authorized as a step pending government approval.

However, analysts believe that due to fundamental disagreements between Hamas and Israel, internal political tensions in Israel, and the U.S. presidential elections, the possibility of short-term progress in the negotiations is unlikely.
