Ceasefire Ended: Israel Launches Extensive Attacks on Gaza

Israel’s military initiated comprehensive air strikes on the Gaza Strip. A statement from the Israeli army reported that Hamas targets were hit. A Hamas official speaking to Reuters announced that Israel unilaterally ended the ceasefire. At least 30 people lost their lives in the attacks. Israeli Army Spokesman Avichay Adraee, in a statement from the X account, used the expression, “In accordance with the instructions of the political level, the Israeli army and Shin Bet initiated a broad attack on Hamas-related targets in the Gaza Strip.” The Israeli Army Internal Front Command announced that schools in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip were suspended and farmers were not allowed to work near the border.

FIRST COMPREHENSIVE ATTACK AFTER THE CEASEFIRE The Israeli attack marked the largest air assault after the ceasefire that began on January 19. The second phase of the prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which had been ongoing for about 2 months, had not been reached. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced that the Prime Minister and Defense Minister gave strong action orders to the army against Hamas. STATEMENT FROM HAMAS After the attacks began, Hamas stated that Netanyahu and the government had decided to break the ceasefire, subjecting hostages to an unknown fate. The statement highlighted that Israel’s attacks on civilians in Gaza continued.
