In Canada, the prime minister’s seat is changing hands after 9 years. Mark Carney took over the leadership chair left empty by Justin Trudeau from the ruling Liberal Party. In his victory speech, Carney targeted American President Donald Trump, saying, “We will not be part of America.” Carney will soon become the Prime Minister of Canada.

After serving as the Prime Minister of Canada for 9 years, Justin Trudeau decided to resign. The new leader of the Liberal Party is Mark Carney, who was Trudeau’s special advisor in recent months.

Carney took over the leadership chair by receiving 86% of the votes at the party congress. He is expected to soon start his duties as the Prime Minister of Canada.

In his first speech, Carney targeted Trump, saying, “The Canadian government rightly retaliated. We apply maximum taxes in the United States and minimum taxes in Canada. My government will continue to impose taxes until the Americans show us respect.”

“WE WILL NOT BE PART OF AMERICA”

Accusing Americans of seeking their resources, Carney stated, “Canada will never be part of America.”

Trump had targeted Canada by calling it the 51st state. This was followed by commercial retaliations.

Carney has no experience in public service. However, he has previously held positions at both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.

CANADA-US TRADE WARS

After becoming the President of America, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico, although it was postponed until April.

Trudeau also took similar steps, stating, “We will not back down from the fight.”
