Gema Igual, the mayor of Santander, the capital of the Cantabria region, stated that the cause of the explosion is still unknown and that the explosion caused a fire in the three-story building. Residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution. Local emergency services reported that 10 people were taken to the hospital, with two being discharged after treatment.
