According to The New York Times (NYT), Dr. Rasha Alawieh, a Lebanese citizen serving at Brown University’s medical school, was deported despite having a valid visa. Though the unit holding her should have informed the court 48 hours in advance of her deportation, she was not given that notice. The Customs and Border Protection unit, despite Alawieh having a valid visa, detained her for 36 hours at Boston Logan International Airport before putting her on a plane back to Lebanon.

FAILURE TO MEET THE 48-HOUR CONDITION The unit did not comply with the condition set by the Massachusetts Federal District Court for informing the court 48 hours in advance of Alawieh’s deportation. Judge Leo Sorokin of the Massachusetts District Court requested information on whether the Customs and Border Protection unit deliberately followed the court orders. Sorokin mentioned that the unit deported Alawieh “without providing any explanation,” indicating “serious allegations” of violating the court order.
