BRICS Summit: Erdogan and Putin to Meet

The leaders of the growing economies of the BRICS countries met on the second day of the summit held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan, which is part of the Russian Federation. The expansion of the Union, “de-dollarization” in trade, and regional conflicts are the main agenda of the meetings. President Erdogan will meet with his Russian counterpart Putin at the summit.

Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is part of Russia, continues to host world leaders on the second day of the 16th BRICS Summit. This year’s first BRICS leaders summit, held under the expanded presidency of Russia for 2024, is of particular importance at a time when Western countries are still trying to isolate Russia. According to a statement by the Kremlin, the main focus of the meetings is to strengthen coordination to support a multipolar world. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that more than 30 countries have expressed their desire to join BRICS. Putin said that they will discuss the expansion of the group in the meeting, but will also keep in mind the need to maintain efficiency. ERDOGAN-PUTIN MEETING Putin’s Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Ushakov announced that Putin and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet on the second day of the BRICS summit.

Ushakov stated, “Putin and Erdogan will meet in Kazan on October 23. The leaders will discuss the planned natural gas center in Turkey during this summit.” According to reports by BBC Turkish, prior to the summit, Russian leader Putin had said that any country wishing to join the BRICS group will be invited to join.
