Boeing to Lay Off 17,000 Employees

1 Mins Read

Reports have revealed that US-based aviation giant Boeing is planning to reduce its workforce by approximately 10%. Boeing’s CEO Kelly Ortberg stated in a message to employees that the company is going through a challenging period and structural changes are necessary to remain competitive in the long term and provide better service to customers. Challenges in the 777X program, flight test delays, and ongoing strikes have caused delivery schedule delays. Ortberg mentioned that the first delivery is now expected in 2026, with plans to complete the commercial program production after the remaining 767 freighter aircraft orders by 2027. He also noted that KC-46A tanker production is ongoing. Ortberg emphasized the need to adjust workforce levels based on priorities, stating, “In the coming months, we plan to reduce our total workforce by approximately 10%, including managers, directors, and employees.” He added that they will be transparent about the timing and impact of these measures. According to reports in the US media, the layoffs are expected to affect 17,000 Boeing employees. Following factory workers going on strike in September, Boeing had implemented measures such as freezing hiring, suspending travel, and putting non-essential expenses on hold to reduce costs.
