Blinken: USA Government Aims to Assist Lebanon

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke at the 19th East Asia Summit held in Laos. Addressing the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Blinken emphasized that protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian aid are the top priorities for the USA.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken attended the 19th East Asia Summit in Laos. Following the summit, Blinken spoke to the press about the conflicts in the Middle East. Expressing deep concern over the spread of Middle Eastern conflicts in Asia, Blinken stated, “The situation of people in Gaza is deeply worrying in Asia.” He also mentioned that the US government is in direct contact with Israel regarding humanitarian needs in Gaza and underlined the vital importance of protecting civilians in conflicts. Blinken also mentioned that the USA and many other countries are willing to assist Lebanon.

“We will work to support Lebanon”

In his statement, Blinken promised support for Lebanon’s efforts to defend itself while Israel continues to attack Hezbollah. The US Secretary stated, “It is clear that the Lebanese people have a strong interest in the state defending itself and taking responsibility for its country and future. We are continuing to engage intensively to prevent broader conflicts in the region.” Blinken also mentioned that the USA will work to support Lebanon in building itself up, as it is in Israel’s clear and legitimate interest to do so, and the Lebanese people desire the same. He emphasized that they believe a diplomatic approach they have been working on and focusing on currently is the best way to achieve this goal.
