60-year-old Kaluva Ramana and 65-year-old Shantikumara Kumari lived with their 30-year-old son Pramod for four days after his passing. The blind couple, unable to see, repeatedly called out for their son for food and water, but received no response.
Neighbors became aware of the situation when they noticed a strong foul smell coming from the house. Upon reporting to the police, officers found the couple semi-conscious, frothing at the mouth, next to their son’s decomposed body.
Authorities who arrived at the scene provided emergency assistance to the couple. Police suspect that Pramod passed away in his sleep four days prior after serving dinner to his family.
A police officer commenting on the incident stated that due to the couple’s weak and muffled voices in the days following their son’s death, neighbors may not have heard their cries. The exact cause of Pramod’s death will be determined through an autopsy.
In a statement released by the police, it was mentioned that Pramod was battling alcoholism and had been abandoned by his wife along with their two daughters.
It was reported that the couple relocated to their eldest son Pradeep’s residence in a different part of the city following the incident.
