US President Joe Biden sent a letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, stating his support for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to an announcement from the Azerbaijani Presidency, Biden expressed his satisfaction with the progress of a peace agreement that would contribute to normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In his letter, Biden assured, “I want to assure you that the US is ready to support the achievement of a lasting and honorable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, finally putting an end to the centuries-old conflict. The peace agreement will not only ensure Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also transform the entire region and offer more trade, investment, and connectivity opportunities between Europe and Central Asia. With the world’s eyes on Baku for the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), you have the opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to peace to the global public.”

Biden emphasized the need for flexibility from both sides to complete work on the unresolved provisions of the peace agreement, stating, “I am confident that you will seize this opportunity. I invite you to finalize the agreement this year. I want to reaffirm my commitment to supporting this issue. My administration is ready to support bold initiatives that lead to peace. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to establish a new strategy for the region for the sake of shared prosperity and common good.”
