Controversy continues regarding Israel’s potential retaliation against Iran. An announcement has been made by Iraq in response. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that the outbreak of war extending to Iran and Israel using Iraq’s airspace as a corridor is “absolutely unacceptable.”
Debates persist on how Israel will respond to Iran’s recent missile attack.
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein expressed Baghdad’s opposition to a regional war spreading to Iran. During a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in the Iraqi capital, Hussein stated, “Continuing the war and expanding toward the Islamic Republic of Iran, (Israel using) Iraq’s airspace as a corridor is absolutely unacceptable.”
Araghchi also stated today that there would be no “red lines” for Iran in defending its people and interests.
According to the Ministry, Araghchi was in Baghdad to discuss the wars in Gaza and Lebanon with Iraqi officials.
In a message shared on X, Araghchi stated, “Despite making tremendous efforts to prevent a widespread war in our region in recent days, I clearly state that we have no red lines when defending our people and interests.” Iran retaliated against Israel on October 1 by launching 200 missiles in response to the killings of leaders from Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that Israel’s response would be “deadly, decisive, and surprising.”
