Automotive Market Sees Contraction in October

Following September, the automotive market also experienced a decline in October. The market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles decreased by 4% in October compared to the same period last year, reaching 97,274 units. Total sales made in 2024 were close to 1 million.

The Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) announced the automotive sales for October. During this period, the market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles reached 947,166 units, showing a decrease of 1.2% from the same period of the previous year.

In October, the market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles saw a 4% decline compared to the same period last year, reaching 97,274 units. While automobile sales decreased by 8.4% to 75,662 units in October compared to the same month the previous year, the light commercial vehicle market increased by 15.2% to 21,612 units. The 10-year average sales increased by 40.1% in the October period. The average sales for 10 years show an increase of 41% for the automobile market and 37.1% for the light commercial vehicle market.

SUV Sales Lead the Market: Low tax A, B, and C segment vehicles accounted for 86.3% of the market. C-segment cars had a share of 55.4% with 415,671 units, B-segment cars had a share of 30.4% with 228,142 units. When evaluated by body type, the most preferred body type was SUV cars with a share of 56.2% and 422,374 sales. SUV cars were followed by sedans with a share of 25.8% and 193,540 sales, and H/B cars with a share of 16.8% and 126,477 sales. Petrol cars had a share of 62.8% with 471,900 sales, hybrid cars had a share of 16.9% with 126,977 sales, diesel cars had a share of 10.3% with 77,113 sales, electric cars had a share of 9.3% with 69,744 sales, and LPG cars had a share of 0.7% with 5,201 sales. Electric car sales below 160 kW increased by 76.4% to 7.6% market share, while electric car sales above 160 kW decreased by 23.3% to 1.7% market share. Car sales below 1600 cc decreased by 10.7% to a 73% share, car sales between 1600-2000cc decreased by 2.1% to a 0.6% share, and car sales above 2000cc decreased by 20.6% to a 0.2% share.

Automatic Cars Hold 91% Market Share: Automatic transmission cars accounted for 90.9% share with 682,809 units, while manual transmission cars reached a 9.1% share with 68,126 units. Vans, with a 73.7% share and 144,542 units, were the most preferred body type, followed by trucks with a 13.1% share and 25,794 units.
