The deadline for submitting the annual income tax return related to last year’s earnings is set to expire on Monday, April 7th. Income taxpayers are in the process of filing and paying their declarations for the year 2024. In response to requests due to Ramadan Bayram, the declaration deadline has been extended from April 2nd to April 7th. Taxpayers subject to income tax due to commercial, agricultural, or professional activities can submit their annual income tax declarations electronically. Taxpayers whose income comes solely from wages, rent, capital gains, or other profits can easily and securely complete their annual income tax declarations via the “Digital Tax Office (Ready Declaration System)”.
For property owners earning rental income, the limit for rent is set at 33,000 Turkish Lira. Property owners earning at least 33,000 lira annually from residential properties and 230,000 lira from commercial properties must pay income tax by April 7th. Those earning below the exempt amount do not need to submit a declaration. Failure to submit a declaration will result in penalties.
Taxpayers can pay their taxes through the Revenue Administration’s website “gib.gov.tr”, the Digital Tax Office, the Revenue Administration’s mobile application, affiliated bank’s credit cards or accounts, international bank cards, bank branches, internet banking, telephone banking, mobile banking, and PTT branches. Payments can also be made at all tax offices. Income tax accrued from the annual income tax declarations for the year 2024 can be paid in two equal installments in April and July of 2025. The first installment, along with stamp duty, can be paid by April 7th, while the second installment can be paid by July 31st. Failure to submit the required declaration electronically within the legal timeframe will result in penalties for taxpayers. Late payment of taxes will incur additional penalties and late payment interest.
