A passenger who tried to open the emergency exit door of a plane going from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, Australia, has reportedly been detained after attempting to do so twice. The individual also attacked a flight attendant who intervened. Australian Federal Police issued a statement regarding the incident.

According to the statement, the 46-year-old passenger attempted to open the emergency exit door at the back of the plane during the flight and was escorted back to their seat by a flight attendant. The same passenger later tried to open the emergency exit door in the middle of the plane and assaulted an airline employee trying to prevent it. The statement mentioned that upon the plane’s landing in Sydney, the passenger was taken into custody for attempting to open the door and could face up to 10 years in prison for endangering the aircraft’s safety and attacking a flight attendant.
