In New York City, where the United Nations General Assembly is ongoing, thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators organized a protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The protesters marched towards the hotel where Netanyahu was staying. Carrying banners with messages like “Bring the hostages home” and “End the war,” the protest left its mark on the streets of New York. In Manhattan, where the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations is taking place, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to speak, was protested by thousands of people in the vicinity of his hotel yesterday. The New York Police Department (NYPD) implemented high-level security measures to prevent the protesters from approaching the hotel where Netanyahu was staying, closing off many streets in Manhattan and blocking off traffic. The demonstrators, who had peacefully started their march from Grand Central train station, proceeded towards Netanyahu’s hotel. The demonstrations, which began peacefully around noon, escalated in the evening when police intervened firmly as the protesters approached the hotel. Many protesters who did not comply with police instructions were arrested. The protest, which also included the Voice of Jewish Peace group, featured demonstrators carrying banners with messages like “Bring the hostages home” and “End the war.” Omar, who participated in the protest, stated, “We are here to speak out against the genocide perpetrated by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. While thousands and tens of thousands of Palestinians are killed, he is sleeping soundly in his hotel. Yesterday it was Lebanon, today it’s Palestine, tomorrow it may be Lebanon again, the entire Middle East is being killed off. The US funds it, the prime minister carries out genocide. Joe Biden is committing genocide in the Middle East. We are here to raise our voices against all this genocide.” The protesters, who demanded Israel to leave Palestine today, emphasized, “Until the genocide ends, until Israel leaves Palestine, we will not stop raising our voices. Palestine is ours. We are here. We are here to make our voices heard, to raise our voices against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.” Following the protests, security measures were heightened to the highest level ahead of Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly today.
