American doctor warns: 3 vitamin supplements you should never take

2 Mins Read

The use of vitamin supplements has been increasing in recent years. However, indiscriminate use of supplements can lead to various health problems. An American doctor highlighted the possible side effects of specific vitamin supplements. The use of supplement vitamins has become quite common. But do you really need all these supplements? Do they have side effects? While there is no debate that vitamins are necessary for our overall health, supplements can cause some unwanted side effects. Dr. Jaban Moore made statements about the vitamin supplements he avoids personally. Dr. Moore, who has around 700,000 followers on Instagram, mentioned the vitamins he stays away from in a video shared on the platform. “Vitamins that I will never take as a functional medicine doctor. The supplement world is sometimes no different than big pharmaceutical companies. Read labels to know what you’re taking,” Dr. Moore warns. He also suggests some alternatives to popular vitamins. The first vitamin supplement on Dr. Moore’s list is Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is necessary to keep your central nervous system healthy, supports DNA and red blood cell production, and also preserves typical brain functions. You can naturally get B12 vitamin from animal foods such as meat, fish, poultry, dairy, and eggs. Dr. Jaban Moore recommends against taking cyanocobalamin, a synthetic form of B12. “Do not use cyanocobalamin, a synthetic form of B12 that contains cyanide and requires extra detoxification. Instead, take methylcobalamin,” he advises. Magnesium is a key mineral that is best for various functions such as muscle and nerve function, bone health, blood sugar regulation, improving sleep and mood. Magnesium is found in various nutrient-dense foods such as whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and various fruits and vegetables. Dr. Moore says, “Do not use magnesium oxide or citrate if you don’t just want laxative properties. Prefer magnesium glycinate to replenish magnesium levels.” Iron is another essential nutrient responsible for various critical functions in your body such as oxygen transport as part of red blood cells. Iron deficiency can lead to iron deficiency anemia. Red meat, beans, nuts, spinach, dried apricots, liver, and offal are rich in iron. Dr. Moore advises, “Do not use ferrous sulfate (iron). It damages digestion and can cause constipation and nausea.” He adds, “Ferrous bisglycinate (iron) is gentler and better absorbed, both heme and non-heme iron being the most bioavailable form.”
