Allegations suggest Trump is considering indirect talks with Iran

The White House is evaluating options for nuclear talks with Iran. It is alleged that President Donald Trump is seriously considering engaging in indirect nuclear talks with Iran. According to a report based on two U.S. officials by the American Axios news portal, the White House is considering options for nuclear talks with Iran. Reportedly, President Trump is pondering the idea of increasing American military presence in the Middle East while also seriously considering engaging in indirect nuclear talks with Tehran. Although Trump previously stated a preference for direct nuclear talks with Iran, he has started to show a positive interest in indirect talks following reports that Iran would only accept indirect talks facilitated by Oman. Trump, who has not yet made a decision on the matter, is working with his national security team to define the roadmap for nuclear negotiations with Iran. One U.S. official indicated that the Trump administration believes direct talks have a higher chance of success, but they are not dismissing the format proposed by the Iranians and have no objections to Oman serving as a mediator, as it has in the past. Both U.S. officials emphasized that no final decision has been made, and internal discussions are ongoing. One official stated, “Following the exchange of letters, we are now discussing the next steps to begin talks with the Iranians and build trust.”
