Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have arrived in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia for talks between the two countries. According to the Saudi Press Agency SPA, Zelensky was welcomed at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah by Deputy Emir of the Mecca Region Prince Saud bin Meshal bin Abdulaziz and Minister of Commerce Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi. It was reported that US Secretary of State Rubio had also arrived in Jeddah. Local media reports indicate that Zelensky is expected to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US Secretary of State Rubio. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha spoke with Rubio over the phone on March 7. Sybiha had shared on social media about the phone conversation, mentioning that American and Ukrainian officials would hold a meeting in Saudi Arabia this week. Sybiha stated, “Ukraine wants the war to end and believes US leadership is necessary to achieve lasting peace.” Representatives from the US and Russia had also met in Saudi Arabia on February 18 with the goal of normalizing bilateral relations and ending the war in Ukraine.
