Technology companies from the United States, including ServiceNow, CyrusOne, CloudHQ, and CoreWeave, have announced a £6.3 billion investment in data centers in the UK. The UK Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Peter Kyle, reported that American tech companies have decided to invest in his country at the UK International Investment Summit held in London. Kyle emphasized that ServiceNow, CyrusOne, CloudHQ, and CoreWeave will invest £6.3 billion in data centers in the UK, stating that this decision reflects the confidence in the UK. Kyle mentioned that technology leaders from around the world see the UK as the best place to invest in data centers and develop artificial intelligence technologies due to its stable market. Highlighting how data centers drive innovation in industries like artificial intelligence, Kyle classified data centers in the UK as Critical National Infrastructure last month to ensure that the sector remains a secure place for investments. He stated, “Today’s wave of investments is a testament to the confidence in our approach of working with the business world to ensure sustainable growth for everyone.” Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during the summit’s opening speech, announced their plans to simplify bureaucracy to increase international investments, saying, “I will do everything in my power to promote growth, including removing regulations that unnecessarily hinder investments.” The UK Treasury announced that a “modern Industrial Strategy” will be implemented to encourage long-term investments in the country, focusing on 8 sectors that are the driving force of growth. These sectors include clean energy industries, creative industries, defense, digital technologies, financial services, life sciences, professional services, and business services.
