Mikati expressed that he was cautiously optimistic about the ceasefire. The Israeli army, which has been engaged in controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, carried out hundreds of airstrikes on southern cities of Lebanon as well as the Bekaa and Baalbek regions on September 23. According to the Ministry of Health in Lebanon, since October 8, 2023, a total of 2,822 people have died, including 104 children and 194 women, with 12,937 others injured. Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah was reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut on September 27. Hezbollah, in turn, is responding to Israel with rockets and missiles. The attacks on Israel mainly targeted military bases, with no significant damage reported. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli bombardments. As a wave of migration continues from the southern regions of the country to the capital Beirut and the north, the Lebanese government announced that more than 518,000 of the displaced persons have fled to Syria.
