Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue. The death toll has exceeded 60 in the bombings targeting Baalbek and Bekaa, while Israeli tanks entered Khiam village. Meanwhile, Hezbollah struck the Maalot-Tarshiha town in northern Israel with rockets, resulting in one casualty. The Israeli army issued new evacuation orders for southern Lebanon. (Reported by Derya Doğan)Casualties are rising in Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 63 people lost their lives and 120 were injured as a result of the attacks on Baalbek and Bekaa in the country’s east. Removal of debris continues in the region, with reports of many vehicles being turned into wrecks. Lebanese state media also announced that Israeli tanks entered the outskirts of Khiam village and launched the deepest attack yet on southern Lebanon in the ground operation launched last month.
The Official National News Agency reported that “numerous tanks belonging to the Israeli army” entered the eastern foothills of Khiam, about six kilometers from the Israeli border. The Israeli army reported that about 50 rocket shells were fired from Lebanon today, some of which were intercepted by the air defense system, while others landed in the north.
Israeli police announced receiving reports of a series of shells falling in the town of Maalot-Tarshiha causing material damage.
The Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom confirmed one fatality in the attack.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah also confirmed firing rockets into the region in a statement. In a separate statement from the Israeli army, it was noted that around 50 shells had crossed from Lebanon to the Upper and Western Galilee regions.
The rocket fire came as Israel continued to strike southern Lebanon. The Israeli army instructed residents of 16 villages in the south of Lebanon to move about 60 kilometers north from the Lebanon-Israel border.
Army Spokesperson Avichay Adraee called on the inhabitants of the 16 villages through a statement on his social media account to evacuate their homes and head north of the Evveli River.
Adraee cautioned the local population against heading south, stressing the danger involved.
The Israeli army’s attacks on southern Lebanon and evacuation calls have displaced numerous people in the region. Over 2,700 individuals have lost their lives in ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
According to official Israeli figures, at least 63 people have been killed on the Israeli side since cross-border clashes with Hezbollah began in October last year, including 12 in the Golan Heights. The Israeli army has lost 37 soldiers since the ground operation in Lebanon started on September 30th. Yesterday, the Israeli army carried out intense shelling on Tyre, a coastal city in Lebanon listed by UNESCO.
Seven individuals had lost their lives in the two-day attacks.
