In the first half of 2024, the number of trips made by domestic tourists to visit their relatives in Turkey reached 18 million 680 thousand, with an expenditure of 68 billion 771 million 319 thousand lira. According to data compiled from the Turkish Statistical Institute, a total of 29 million 684 thousand trips were made within domestic tourism in the January-June period of this year. The total travel expenses of domestic tourists were recorded as 148 billion 376 million 593 thousand lira. Looking at the purposes of these trips, domestic tourists made a total of 18 million 860 thousand trips to visit their relatives in the span of six months, with a spending of 68 billion 771 million 319 thousand lira. The total number of overnight stays for visits to relatives reached 133 million 573 thousand. In the same period last year, domestic tourists made a total of 17 million 166 thousand trips to visit their relatives, spending 33 billion 274 million 152 thousand lira on these trips. Following visits to relatives, trips for leisure and vacations ranked second with 8 million 489 thousand trips. Domestic tourists spent 60 billion 511 million 887 thousand lira for this purpose during that period. Some traveled for health reasons, with 1 million 178 thousand trips recorded. The expenditure for these trips amounted to 10 billion 154 million 479 thousand lira. The total overnight stays for health trips were recorded as 10 million 956 thousand. The expenditure for 208 thousand trips made for commercial relations and fairs was recorded as 1 billion 600 million 774 thousand lira. A total of 909 thousand overnight stays were made for this purpose. For trips made for business or educational purposes such as meetings, conferences, courses, and seminars, the expenditure amounted to 2 billion 611 million 33 thousand lira. During this period, a total of 349 thousand trips were made for such events, with a total of 1 million 24 thousand overnight stays calculated. The number of cultural trips reached 94 thousand, with an expenditure of 535 million 576 thousand lira. The total number of overnight stays for cultural trips by domestic tourists was recorded as 231 thousand.
