The Ministry of Trade announced that digital platforms and internet service providers were fined 24 million Turkish Liras. According to the Ministry of Trade, digital platforms and internet service providers found to be acting contrary to regulations were fined 24 million Turkish Liras. The Ministry stated that investigations were initiated regarding companies providing internet services to protect consumer interests, as well as digital platforms offering personalized content such as movies, series, documentaries, comedy, and sports. Inspections revealed that digital platforms and internet service providers were engaging in practices contrary to regulations, such as charging consumers for services not actually provided, making changes to terms and conditions to the detriment of consumers within the commitment period, failing to provide services as promised, not honoring subscription termination requests in a timely manner, and issuing invoices to consumers who did not benefit from any service and demanding payment. Consequently, digital platforms and internet service providers were fined 24 million 192 thousand Turkish Liras due to the grievances caused to consumers. 857 million Turkish Liras in fines were imposed on 200 thousand companies. The announcement reported that in the first 9 months of this year, 159 companies were fined 448.7 million liras due to contracts involving consumers; 14,829 companies were fined 187.4 million liras for advertising and unfair trade practices inspections; 5,883 companies were fined 19.5 million liras as part of market surveillance and control activities; and as a result of inspections, a total of 201.5 million liras were fined to 179,217 companies, totaling 857.1 million liras in fines for 200,088 companies.
