Following the announcement of the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, US President Joe Biden stated that there is an opportunity for a political solution that will provide a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians.

After Israeli officials announced the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, President Joe Biden made a statement.

Biden remarked, “This is a good day for Israel, the US, and the world. I will soon congratulate Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders, discuss ways to reunite hostages with their families, and work towards permanently ending a conflict that has caused immense devastation to innocent people.” Expressing hope for an opportunity for the next steps in Gaza, Biden stated, “There is now an ‘aftermath’ in Gaza where Hamas is no longer in power, presenting an opportunity for a political solution that will create a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians. However, there is still much work ahead of us.”

NETANYAHU MEETS WITH BIDEN It was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and US President Biden spoke on the phone following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in the attack in southern Gaza. According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Biden congratulated Netanyahu for Sinwar’s demise in the attack. Netanyahu and Biden expressed the view that “an opportunity has arisen” for the release of Israeli captives in Gaza and decided to work together on this matter. “US FORCES WERE NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED” The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) disclosed that they were “not directly involved” in the operation that killed Sinwar. Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, in a daily press briefing, stated, “This was an Israeli operation. US forces were not directly involved.” Ryder emphasized that the US provided information and intelligence support to Israel for the rescue of hostages and finding Hamas leaders responsible for holding them, describing Sinwar’s killing as a “significant development and a success in countering terrorism.” Ryder argued that the killing of the Hamas leader “provided an opportunity for a ceasefire” and expressed support for a ceasefire to be able to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and ensure the security and stability of the Palestinian people.
