Israel releases 15 Palestinian prisoners

2 Mins Read

It has been reported that Israel has released at least 15 Palestinian prisoners, including one who has been imprisoned for 20 years. A written statement from the Palestinian Prisoners Society stated, “The occupying Israel released at least 15 prisoners, including administrative detainees and one individual from the city of Nablus who has served a 20-year sentence in different prisons.” The statement mentioned that most of the prisoners have been freed due to health issues. Additionally, it was noted in the statement that 15-year-old Iyad Ashraf, who was detained 7 months ago in Shuafat Refugee Camp, was conditionally released this morning due to “scabies disease.” The Palestinian Prisoners Society stated that Israel released Ashraf from prison under the condition that he serves home detention with an electronic ankle monitor and does not stay with his family. The statement pointed out that Israel has been using scabies disease, which affects children and elderly individuals among others, as a means of torture by delaying treatment for prisoners. Since Israel initiated an attack on Gaza on October 7, 2023, there has been an increase in detentions, raids, and attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The number of Palestinians detained in the West Bank since October 7 has surpassed 11,300.
