Netanyahu Threatens Withdrawal of UN Peacekeeping Force (UNIFIL) from Southern Lebanon

1 Mins Read

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a threat for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to withdraw from southern Lebanon. In a video message, Netanyahu made remarks regarding the UNIFIL forces in Lebanon targeted by the Israeli army. Netanyahu insisted that UNIFIL should “listen to Israel’s withdrawal request,” and claimed the accusation of intentional attacks on UNIFIL personnel by Israel is completely false. Alleging that Hezbollah uses UNIFIL facilities and positions as shields, Netanyahu reiterated the threat of UNIFIL forces withdrawing from the south. Following the Israeli army’s targeting of UNIFIL, Netanyahu had also threatened the withdrawal of UNIFIL forces from southern Lebanon. Many countries expressed deep concern over the Israeli army’s attacks on UNIFIL bases and called on Israel to stop these attacks immediately. UNIFIL reported that two peacekeeping soldiers were injured as a result of the Israeli army targeting an observation tower on October 10. Moreover, yesterday, the Israeli army conducted a raid on UNIFIL facilities in southern Lebanon, destroying the facility’s doors with tanks.
