Reportedly, German intelligence services have issued a warning about the possibility of Russian sabotage in Germany. Speaking in the Federal Parliament, Thomas Haldenwang, the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution responsible for domestic intelligence in Germany, stated that Moscow’s agents and collaborators have increased sabotage and espionage activities in the country. “We are observing aggressive actions by Russian intelligence services,” Haldenwang said. According to a report in Spiegel, Bruno Kahl, the head of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), indicated that Moscow’s secret intelligence activities in foreign countries have reached unprecedented levels. Kahl mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is testing the West’s red lines, adding that they do not expect the situation to worsen further. Martina Rosenberg, the head of the German Military Intelligence Service, stated that the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) are the focus of espionage and sabotage activities. Rosenberg expressed concerns about espionage attempts targeting critical infrastructure, emphasizing the need for more attention. It was reported that German security officials were particularly concerned about the possibility of sabotage in the incident where a container caught fire at Leipzig Airport in July. The incident at Leipzig Airport was said to have been caused by an incendiary device in a cargo shipment. It was noted that if the shipment had been made on time, a fire on the plane could have resulted in a major disaster, but luckily the delay of the aircraft resulted in the fire starting earlier, preventing a catastrophe from occurring.
