Departing from Tbilisi Airport, a plane from the Georgian airline company Georgian Wings landed in Trabzon with a direct flight.

The aircraft, carrying journalists and company officials from Trabzon to Tbilisi, landed at Trabzon Airport in the morning. Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım, speaking at the ceremony held there, mentioned witnessing a historic moment, stating that after 23 years, flights between Georgia and Trabzon have resumed. Yıldırım emphasized that flights would take place twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, expressing hope that this would lead to better mutual understanding between the two nations. He also noted that expanding flight schedules to three or four times a week, or even daily, was within their hopes to further shorten distances and eliminate the distance between people.

Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç highlighted that reciprocal flights not only benefit tourism but also strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two countries. Genç pointed out that Trabzon has become a rapidly growing tourism destination in recent years, hosting visitors from various countries, and expressed confidence that flights starting from Tbilisi today would continue to grow, possibly extending to destinations like Erbil and Sochi. He affirmed the city’s commitment to taking responsibility and leading such initiatives.

Georgian Consul General in Trabzon, Nikoloz Iashvili, expressed great happiness over this development, considering the flight routes highly significant for both nations as they contribute to bringing the peoples of the two friendly countries closer together. He mentioned that while Georgian citizens commonly travel to Istanbul, these new flight routes will allow residents of Eastern Georgia to become more familiar with Turkey’s Black Sea region. At the ceremony, Major General Murat Yakın, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Erkut Çelebi, Director of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism Tamer Erdoğan, Hülya Ulusoy and Ahsen Aydın from the Ali Osman Ulusoy Companies Group, and President of the Board of Directors of Georgian Wings Shalva Kiknadze were also present.
