Current Situation in Lebanon: Israeli Warplanes Destroy Mosque, Hezbollah Fires Rockets at Haifa Base

3 Mins Read

The bombardment by the Israeli army in Lebanon and Gaza continues. Warplanes targeted a mosque in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah reported repelling Israeli soldiers trying to infiltrate from the border and launching a rocket attack on an Israeli military base in Haifa. Israel, on the other hand, stated that five rocket projectiles fired from Lebanon were intercepted. Meanwhile, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) based in Lebanon was once again targeted. The Israeli army continues to target Lebanon from both air and ground.

According to an official statement from Lebanon’s state news agency, Israeli warplanes struck a mosque in the town of Kfar Tibnit in southern Lebanon. Additionally, the Red Cross announced that rescue workers in southern Lebanon were injured in an attack.

It was reported that the mosque was completely destroyed. Hezbollah also claimed to have repelled Israeli forces attempting to infiltrate Ramya. Israel reported intercepting five rocket projectiles fired from Lebanon. Hezbollah stated, “We targeted Israeli enemy forces gathered in the village of Marun al-Ras with artillery shells.”

Furthermore, Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on an Israeli military base in Haifa. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Hezbollah fired approximately 320 rocket projectiles from Lebanon into Israel yesterday. The Israeli army disclosed that two soldiers from the Etzioni Brigade were severely injured in separate clashes in southern Lebanon. Other soldiers sustained light to moderate injuries.

The army declared certain areas around some towns in northern Israel as restricted areas. Israel issued evacuation orders to residents of 23 villages in southern Lebanon to move north towards the Awali River, which flows from the west of the Bekaa Valley to the Mediterranean.

The army asserted that evacuations were necessary for the safety of residents due to Hezbollah’s increased activities in the region. It also claimed that Hezbollah used positions to hide weapons and launch attacks against Israel. Hezbollah denies allegations of storing arms among civilians.

The army also declared two neighborhoods in the northern city of Gaza as “dangerous war zones” yesterday, issuing evacuation orders. The Interior Ministry in Gaza, administered by Hamas, urged residents of the area not to move.

Health workers announced that the Israeli army killed at least 29 Palestinians in Gaza in attacks yesterday. They reported that soldiers continued to advance in the Jabaliya area, where thousands of people are trapped.

Residents of Jabaliya, the largest historic refugee camp in the area located in the north, reported being targeted by Israeli forces from the air and ground. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) based in Lebanon was targeted by gunfire again.

In the third attack, another UNIFIL soldier was wounded. While the source of the gunfire remains unknown, the number of injured UN soldiers has risen to five since Thursday. Last week, Israel targeted UNIFIL positions in two separate attacks, resulting in four soldiers being wounded.
